It is true that visitors are advised that photography is not "allowed" in the Body Worlds exhibit, and most visitors do as they're told without question.
The exhibit's no-photography policy is supplied directly from Gunther von Hagen to all museums on the exhibition tour. However, as noted in their FAQs, "The Museum of Science and Industry is supported in part through the generosity of the people of Chicago through the Chicago Park District." In other words, as it is supported by tax dollars, the museum is a public facility – and we have legal rights to take photographs in public places in this country (a guide for photographers can be found at http://www.krages.com/ThePhotographersRight.pdf). Note also that I am not selling my photos. In fact, my crappy phonecam pictures in no way compete with the exhibit's lucrative catalog (which I bought and heartily recommend) and poster franchise, nor was I using a disruptive and inconsiderate camera flash.
